Immunotherapy begins today……

Addi was admitted into the hospital yesterday to begin two cycles of chemo and immunotherapy in hopes of shrinking her cancer so she can go to the next steps of treatment which is stem cell transplant.  She will begin immunotherapy today at 2:00 and it will take 10 hours to infuse. She will have this everyday this week. She will be on a continuous pain pump for the 10 hours while getting the immunotherapy called Unituxin. The doctor says it’s painful but as soon as the 10 hour infusion is complete the pain and other side effects subside. Side effects include high fever, pain, swelling, allergic reaction, among others.  The doctor said they will watch her urine output closely to ensure she is urinating and if she has trouble will make sure they give her something.  They will monitor her closely as the immunotherapy is administered.  Not going to lie, it is a little nerve wracking seeing how she has never had this treatment and not knowing what to expect.  All I know is that it is painful and I hate that for Addi.  No child should have to endure this.

Day one of chemo went well. She is getting one oral chemo and an hour after taking the oral, she gets am IV chemo. She will get chemotherapy again today and everyday until Friday. The doctor says the side effects from this chemo will be minimal this time so we are thanking the Lord for that.  

Addi is in great spirits today and we have had a fun morning walking the halls, doing crafts, playing and looking at the fish.  We wanted to get as much fun in as possible before the immunotherapy begins because after it starts she will be on a continuous pain pump and unable to walk around and won’t feel like doing much.  

Please say a prayer for her that the pain will be minimal and that this goes a lot easier than expected!  It is going to be a long week for our little angel so please remember her when you pray.  Seeing her in pain is the worst!!!
