DEVOTIONAL:  Let the words of my mouth

What is coming out of your mouth?  Is it love, is it life, is it compassion and positivity or are you the person that feels it is your place to let everyone know how wrong they are and condemning them because they don’t agree with your way of thinking or doing things?  The Bible says it clearly in Psalms 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”  Read that bible verse again and then think about what is coming out of your mouth and what is in your heart.  If Jesus himself was reading your Facebook posts, listening to your conversations, seeing you interact with your husband and children, or communicating with people around you…..would it be acceptable in his sight?  The bible also says in Philippians 4:8, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.”  If the bible is telling us these are the things we should think on, then these are also the things that should be in our heart and what others see in us.

Can I just say this…..if you can’t be encouraging, uplifting, compassionate and have something good to say…….JUST BE QUIET!  We are not God and we need to be still and let Him be God and stop trying to help Him out.  Each person must live by the convictions of their own hearts….not your condemnation of what you feel is right!  I know, kind of harsh but someone needs to remind Christians that it is our responsibility to show love and compassion in a dark and dying world….even when we disagree.  We must stop shaming people, being angry, stirring the pot, and being the problem in this messed up world.  People need us to be the positive light in this dark world with our words and actions even to those who may not deserve it!  That is what God calls us to do and it is our responsibility as a Christian.

If we want change in this world, it must start with us.  How can we do that?  It is simple as asking the question in whatever it is we do or say…..Is this acceptable in your sight oh Lord?  All the division and anger in this country over this virus is just unbelievable.  My heart has been heavily burdened about the hate, the arguing, the division, and the things that I have read and seen by people that I have held to a higher regard.  Instead of strife, try prayer and let the change start with us.  When we start praying and being the hands and feet of Jesus, then the world will begin to change for the better.

You know the saying WWJD….What would Jesus Do….Well, some of you need to ask before you hit that word POST….What would Jesus think?  When you feel the anger rising, the urge to respond in a nasty manor, read the bible verse and ask….Is this acceptable in HIS sight?  Is this uplifting others?  Is this showing Jesus in what I am doing?  Am I showing love and compassion?  Am I condemning someone for their choices or am I praying that GOD will change their heart?  I hope this verse burns something deep within your soul so that the next time you respond, it will be as if Jesus were in the room….”Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21. We have a lot of power in our tongue so use it wisely!

It is up to you and me to pause for a moment and tune our hearts to His voice and our mind set on His thoughts so that we can be reminded of His word.  Take control of your emotions, thoughts and actions….pause before you respond to a situation or the people around you.  Let our words be HIS truth but let it be done or said in love.  Let God act through you because hasty words and actions leave no room for HIM!  May we always be mindful of how our words can impact others because a foolish mouth can be our undoing.  Let us always aspire to BUILD, not break; BLESS not curse, PRAISE not criticize so that it may be acceptable to the heart of God.

Prayer:

Dear heavenly Father I come to you today and I ask you to carefully craft me into the person you want me to be so that my words may impart life to others and they may be encouraged.  Forgive me Lord for the words that have not been acceptable in your sight and allow me to move forward in Your love so that I can be a light in this dark world.  May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart always be acceptable in your sight and an encouragement to everyone I come in contact with.  Let others see You through my life each as I am a reflection of You.  In Jesus name I pray….Amen!
