DEVOTIONAL: Peace in the Storm

DEVOTIONAL: Peace in the Storm

Peace During the Storm

Do you want to have peace regardless of what you are going through?  Is your life, heart and mind in a stormy place? Has it been hard to act like everything is good in your life when you are struggling and the storm you are enduring feels like the waves ‘are going to drown you?  If you are saying yes, that is me….just know that you are not alone!  I know that is hard to fathom when you feel you just can’t go on but God is right there with you in the midst of your storm and he is capable to calm the raging storm and the waves that threaten to drown you.  It is possible if you are willing to give it all to God and just trust Him and give Him all of your troubles.  The troubles and storms of your life are not too big, too hard or trouble Him but the cries of your heart will get His attention.  As His child, He wants to deliever you. It may not happen immediately but God is committed to being the anchor for us during the storms of life and to help us through it regardless how big that storm seems to you.  Psalm 46 tells us that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”  We must give every problem and every circumstance that is taking us through a storm to God and trust that He is going to be there through it all.  Regardless of the outcome we can have the joy of the Lord and peace that surpasses all understanding because the God that is always on time is working all things out.

I’ve never experienced turbulence like I experienced on our flight yesterday.  I turned on my praise music and asked God to please take my fear, give me peace and to get us safely home and out of this strom we were going through. I prayed for calm, for peace, no fear and for God to see us through this rough time.  Finally, God calmed the turbulence. At one point the captain came on the speaker and said…we are experiencing severe turbulence so keep buckled so we can hopefully get you safely to your destination. I was thinking about how our lives are much like the turbulence on an airplane when going through a storm….it was rough, it brought a lot of fear to my heart, I didn’t know if we would make it through it, I had no control over what was happening but it brought me to a place of praying and asking for Gods protection and peace and He gave it to me. Then out of nowhere it was smooth flying….we made it through the storm…and the fear was lifted. God will do that for us in difficult times right in the middle of the storm, if we just TRUST Him to get us through those rough, hard, scary times in life. We just have to hold on and know that God is with us and let Him fill our hearts with peace…..so just buckle up, stay calm and hold on because He’s going to get you through those turbulent, scary, hard times in life that you have no control of. It was one of those life lessons and faith provoking times in my life that when we have no control, all we can do is pray, trust and hold on for dear life until we get through it.

There is always one thing that you can count on and that is God will never fail.  When you are in the storm, waiting it out, praying and believing, know that God is working and bringing all things in order for your good. Even when it doesn’t feel good going through it, even when the outcome doesn’t feel good and it doesn’t turn out how we prayed….God knows things we cannot see and we have to trust and walk in peace regardless of the circumstances and outcome.  You can come before the Lord right now…weak, exhausted, devestated and confused and know that He will patiently love you and bring peace through the storm.

While storms in life are inevitable and many times out ouf our control, we can walk through those storms with peace and even joy when we understand the righteousness and faith in Jesus.  Faith means “complete trust and confidence in someone or something..” You must ask yourself, do I truly have faith (trust and confidence) in God?  Do I truly trust God in all things?  I know we trust God when life is going great but do you truly trust Him when things are not so great?  In order to trust God fully in all things, is to submit and walk in His obedience during the good and bad times we face.  The Bible says in Matthew 6:33, Seek first the kingdom of God and righteousness and peace and joy will be with you always.  We must understand that peace in not an emotion that we feel but yet a place in God that our spirit resides and remains. Our Faith and our Trust in God must be stronger than our fear and it can be, if we surround ourselves in His word, trust and praise Him in the midst of the storm.

God says in his word that “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.” Isaiah 43:2). The waters may be deep, and the storm may be strong but no storm, no trial, no setbacks will stray us from God’s promises and His love.  He is with you, He will not leave you and He will see you through this storm.  Being patient isn’t always easy but God is working even when we can’t see and He will not ever let you down or let you drown!  Our response to the fear we have during the storms of this life has to change so that we can walk in peace and freedom reagardless of our circumstances.  God calls us to walk daily in peace no matter what we are facing.  If you are walking through a storm today…..I encourage you to speak to that storm and declare God’s word over the storm, “Peace! Be still!” and show the authority that you have in Christ to defeat any plans of the enemy in your life so that you can walk in peace……and worship Him as you wait for the storm to pass and the waters to calm!

You can have peace during the strom if you can rememember these things…..

  • Don’t forget God has promised to be with us if we humble ourselves and call on Him to be with us and quieten the storm.
  • Don’t get distracted while you are in the storm and become angry by allowing the enemy to deceive you by thinking God is punishing you.
  • Don’t lose faith and never speak negativity into your situation.  Always speak life and peace to the storm.
  • Never stop praying-God will sometimes take you through a storm to bring you to your knees to see the power of prayer and to draw you to a closer walk with Him.
  • Never ever give up hope-The storms don’t last forever so hold on tight and trust God is with you even when you feel like you are drowning.  If He brings you to the storm….He will bring you through it!

Choose to praise when your heart is heavy and when you are in the lowest of valleys because nothing can prevail in the name of Jesus.  Call on Jesus when the storm is raging, and the waves are trying to overcome you.  He will not let you drown!  I pray that your doubt be turned to faith, your trials become triumphs, your storms clear a path for the rainbow, your weakness becomes strength and your sorrow turns to JOY!  Miracles don’t always come quickly and the way we want but our faith has to stand firm on His promises.  Your response to fear needs to change to praise and trust so that God can bring you peace in the midst of the ragin storm.  When you are in the middle of the storm sometimes it is hard to find the rainbow but hold on because it is coming.

Prayer for Peace during the storm:  Dear heavenly Father I come to you today and I ask you to give me peace during this strom I am going through.  God I need you to fill me with peace, joy and understanding.  There is nothing else I can do in this situation but to give this to you and trust you are going to be with me and take me through this difficult time.  God I am overwhelmed and exhausted in every way possible so be with me and give me strength and patience until the storm passes.  I know that in whatever I face, you will be my refuge, my strength and my peace.  When I am feeling overwhelmed God, please remind me that you are always with me and will never leave nor forsake me.  In Jesus name I pray….Amen!

When the Tornados was in my area in Smith station/ Beaurgard area on March 3,2019, I was in my closet reading Psalms 91 over & over. I prayed for Peace that day n to take fear away an he has. I do get upset when I hear the tornado siren go off cause my 1st thought is the "23" lives lost that day an I stop n Pray for all the ones still troubled an affected by that storm.
