DEVOTIONAL: Overcoming Doubt and Fear

Overcoming Doubt and Fear

Many times throughout this journey Satan has come in to try and bring doubt and fear so that he could steal my joy and peace. God put in my heart as I was watching Addi fight for her life that she would live and not die.  I clung every day to what I knew God told me.  I prayed life over her little body, and I prayed daily that His word would come to pass in Addi’s life even in those moments that she could have died.  Satan has used every force possible to bring doubt to my heart about what God was doing in Addi’s life and what He told me.  He would bring doubt and make me feel that maybe, just maybe that God did not speak to my heart that she was going to live.  But God….He came through every time and Satan was defeated.

I learned very fast that Satan would do anything to bring fear and doubt to my heart and that I had to resist every force and know that God spoke to me and to cling to HIM, His word and He would see her and me through every trial we faced. Satan used many things to plant seeds of doubt/fear and each time I had to resist the works of Satan trying to defeat me. Is Satan trying to bring doubt and fear to your life?  I want to show you what Satan will use so that you too can resist and claim victory over doubt and fear.

1. People – Satan used people I loved and trusted to plant seeds of doubt and fear in my heart. One person that I am very close to and relied greatly on for comfort and guidance told me to prepare myself because Addi was going to die. Lesson: Don’t believe the report of man, don’t rely on man to draw your faith and trust from. Man will fail you, but God will not.  You must have the faith and only trust God and His word. Don’t let any person tell you differently and plant those seeds of doubt and fear in your heart.  Trust me when I say that people very close to you that you trust will be the very ones that Satan tries to use to bring the doubt and fear.  Not that they are trying to be hurtful, but Satan is sneaky and will use their doubt to combat what God is trying to do in your own life to try and defeat you.  When we are weak, he will use those times to try and bring destruction in our life in any way possible.

2. Your own thoughts:  Satan will use our very mind, thoughts and insecurities to provoke fear and doubt.  Satan would bring these terrible thoughts in my mind……Why would God spare Addi and not others? Why is Addi any different? This was Satan tormenting my mind at such a vulnerable time and he so desperately wanted me to fall prey to those whispers of doubt so that fear would overcome my faith.

3. Circumstances – When Addi was on her death bed and things didn’t look good and the doctor was not giving us much hope, Satan made me doubt and fear the worse.  He has used the circumstances we are in many times during this journey to consistently try to bring fear so that I doubted Gods promises.  Don’t look at the circumstances….look to God and His promises.  Stand firm and trust him with all faith that He will do what He said He would do!  When your circumstances look bad, God is still on the throne and still working on your behalf.

So you see Satan is sneaky and he will use every opportunity, in any way possible to bring doubt and fear through people, through our own thoughts and the circumstances we are in.  What can we do to combat the work of the Enemy and to overcome the doubt and fear?

1-Read your bible and stay very grounded in HIS word.

2-Reject the doubt and fear that Satan brings to your heart and mind.  You must train your mind to reject every piece of doubt that Satan brings, and we do that by staying in God’s presence and His Word.

3-Believe the promises of God and NEVER doubt Him and what He spoke to your heart.

4-Do not rely on people for your source of help in time of trouble.  Trust God and lean on Him and have faith in the one living God and rely on Him wholeheartedly.

Resist the devil and He must flee.  He is a liar and with God there is no place in our hearts or lives for fear and doubt because we are overcomers through Christ Jesus who lives in us!

Prayer to overcome doubt and fear:

Dear Heavenly Father I come to you today and I ask you to fill me with your strength so that I can defeat Satan as he tries to bring doubt and fear to my heart and mind.  I ask you to give me the insight to see the works of Satan so that I can resist and have peace even in the midst of the storm.  Thank you Lord for being active and present in my life even when I cannot see and for protecting me from the works of the Enemy that try to bring doubt and fear to defeat me.  Thank you for being my light and my salvation so that I can live in victory in no matter what I face in this life.  I will not doubt your word and I will not fear in the name of Jesus because you will lead me and guide in all that I do and in every circumstance.  In Jesus Name I pray….Amen!

Bible verses to overcome doubt

Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

James 1:5-6 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”

James 4:7 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
