DEVOTIONAL: Slaying the Goliath’s in your Life

DEVOTIONAL:  Slaying the Goliath’s in your Life

In this life, we will face many giants.  You may be facing some giants in your life right now.  You are looking at that giant in front of you and don’t even know how you could ever win against it because it is so much bigger than you and you just feel you are not strong enough or equipped to battle it and win.  You have to understand that you are under attack.  Satan is here to steal, kill and destroy you so how does he do that?  He attacks you and everything you hold near and dear because that is how he knows he can bring fear and doubt in your life.  Satan thinks if he attacks your family, your finances, your job, your health, your relationships and everything that means the most to you that he can defeat you and you will doubt God.  This is when we have to become a David and slay every Goliath in life!

I was reading the story of David and Goliath this week.  As I was reading, there were several parts that really stood out to me.  I look at Goliath as a symbol of the “Goliaths” we have in our own lives….the troubles, the difficulties, the heartaches and the attacks that Satan throws at us.  In Samuel 17:24 the word says, “Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear.”  That is what we do when we are facing troubles and the Goliaths in our lives.  You see the giant and you feel it is so big and so strong that you feel you can never defeat it so you run in fear as fast as you can.  What did David do when he went out to battle?  “David ran quickly toward the battle” Samuel  17:48. That is what we have to do when we face Goliaths in our life….we have to run right toward them and go to battle with confidence. What did David have with him when he went into battle with this giant?  “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty.” Samuel 17:45. Then David faced the giant with NO fear, he went into his bag and pulled out a simple sling and a stone and he slayed the giant.  When he did, the Philistines saw that Goliath was dead and they turned and ran.  They RAN the other way from this one man…David.

So reading this we can learn some valuable lessons.  First, David ran straight toward the giant.  He did not run away, he did not hide, he did not send someone else, he did not give up or look at the circumstances that surrounded him.  No, David knew that God was going with him into battle and would give him all he needed to win this battle.  He should not have won against such a giant as Goliath.  He should have died that day, but He faced that giant without fear, and he went in the name of the Lord and he WON.  He went in faith and took with him what God gave him and he was victorious.  This is how we must face the giants in our lives.  Prepare yourself for battle with God by your side, in prayer, the word of God in your heart, faith and trust that God is going to slay the giant.  He will equip you for battle and he will remove all fear if you just trust and believe that He is with you and goes before you, he surrounds you and he has prepared the way before you even knew you would have to fight this battle.

The story of David and Goliath is powerful if we will put these simple truths into practice in our own lives.  Slay fear, slay worry, slay doubt and every force that is coming against you in the name of Jesus.  David did not put his trust in Saul’s armor but he put his trust in God and the weapons that God gave him.  We can’t trust our own resources and be tempted to rely on ourselves or others to fight our battles.  We must put on the full armor of God and go to battle and know that God has equipped us for battle and with Gods help we can overcome every giant in our lives and receive victory with faith and trust. Jesus, the name above all names is bigger than all the circumstances, difficulties, illnesses and setbacks.  What giants are you facing today?  Settle in your heart right now that you will slay the Goliaths that you are facing in your life and will be victorious in the mighty name of Jesus!

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father I come to you today with a burdened heart as I am fighting many battles in my life.  I know that this battle I am fighting seems so impossible to me but help me remember that nothing is impossible with You.  I lay the battle in your hands along with all of my fears, worries and cares and I ask you to surround me with peace and the full armor of God as I go to battle.  Fight this battle for me and with me as you are faithful and true to save and protect your people.  Dear Lord, I will praise you during this battle and I will proclaim your goodness all the days of my life even in the darkest valley’s.  I ask you to fill my heart with peace and give me strength as I slay the Goliaths in my life.  I declare right now that the giants in my life that I am facing will be defeated in In Jesus name I pray….Amen!
