DEVOTIONAL: Patience……while we wait!!
Patience while we wait: When are you going to answer this prayer God?
God can and will use our trials to grow us in trust and through that trust….patience! We would not have to trust god with our lives if we knew when things were going to happen, why certain things happen and how that prayer was going to be answered. Patience can be described as how we react, behave and trust while we are waiting for something to happen. Patience in any circumstance says a lot about our character and our walk and trust in God. We need stable, Godly character which enables us to have a stable relationship with God in all aspects of our lives. So as we wait on our circumstances to change, our prayers to be answered and our breakthrough we must react, interact and behave as Jesus would. Your example and how you respond to your circumstances is important to the world. Patience is a fruit of the spirit that only shows during a trial. As a Christian, we must put our faith into action so that others can see Jesus through us in every aspect of our lives especially as we endure trials and storms. We have to react the same way when things are bad as we would when things are good. We can’t go up and down emotionally based on what’s going on in our life. The Bible says we walk by faith not by site so that means we don’t let our circumstances determine our attitude of how we feel when things are not going exactly how we want or how we have prayed they would. We don’t look at how things look in the flesh but according to Gods word. God says in his word that we can trust him and that he will never leave us or forsake us. So believe His word and that God WILL take care of you.
Are you a single mom who is struggling to make ends meet and just don’t know what to do? Have you lost your job and don’t know how you are going to pay the light bill? Are you battling an illness and don’t see how God is ever going to heal you when the report is bad? Don’t let the enemy come to steal your peace and tell you things are bad and you are sinking or you won’t make it through this difficult situation. You stand up right now and declare…..I don’t know what I’m going to do because I can’t do this myself but I’m going to trust God to work it all out and I will have patience and trust Him until it happens. While you wait on Him to move in your circumstances…..Trust Him, believe his word and have faith that He is working everything in His time and His way. Don’t try and figure it all out yourself because you can’t. Go to Gods word and put your faith into action by laying it all down in front of Him and leaving it in Gods hands to work it all out!
We inherit Gods promises by not only having faith but patience in the wait. Long suffering means we are going to go through trials and tribulations in life. As soon as we embrace the hard times and let God do what only He can do in our situation the sooner you will be out of the storm and living Gods will for your life. We have to stop thinking that everything’s just supposed to be ok all the time. God never told us life was going to be easy if we serve Him. He never said that because we are Christians that we were going to float through life and everything was going to be perfect. Sometimes things are not going to go right and life is going to be hard but we have to release it to God and trust. The Bible tells us we will go through deep waters so have patience and wade in the waters until God brings you out.
There are times when we are waiting and things are not working out like we thought they should that it seems like God is not there. That He has abandoned us, that He is not hearing our prayers, that He is so far away…..but He is there….even in those hard times. I believe God wants us to trust him but to also stay busy blessing others even during our own storm. When we can focus on others and being their blessing, it blesses God. Dying to self and taking up our cross to honor Him by blessing others will help us endure the path until God answers those prayers. Waiting builds patience which in turn draws us to a closer walk with God. Nothing proves our faith in God better than waiting on God with a good attitude and being a blessing even when life is not the way we want it to be and our circumstances are difficult. It is not falling apart….God is just bringing it all together to bring us into His perfect will and purpose, if we can just be patient and wait on Him.
The great thing about truly trusting God is that as we wait on Him to move…..we really don’t have to know how he’s going to do it or when he’s going to do it for us…..we just know He is! It is part of our human nature to just want to know when and why things happened this way. When we try to figure everything out on our own instead of waiting patiently on God; when we try to do it our way we bring stress, anxiety and worry to our lives. Think about how much peace we would have if we stopped trying to figure everything out! We sometimes get frustrated when things aren’t working the way we had planned it in our own minds but often it’s because Gods not in those plans. One thing you can be assured of….If God is in something, He will make it work. It’s really hard to understand Gods timing sometimes but we must know His timing is perfect. We get stronger in the Lord and grow in Him when we go through trials and don’t give up. We mature spiritually as we wait and trust God. We even grow in the lord when we are not getting what we want if we just keep doing the right things while praising him anyway.
Are you waiting on the right spouse, are you waiting for God to give you a child, are you waiting for God to heal you, are you waiting for that loved one to turn to God? You have to come to a place that you say I’m going to keep believing and trusting even if I don’t see a result in the timing I feel it should be done. God has you on your knees for a reason, he has you coming to Him daily to draw you closer to Him and to build you spiritually. If we knew when and how God was going to move and answer our prayers, who would need patience, who would need trust, who would need faith? Think about it. God is drawing you closer to him and growing your faith as you wait….just be patient. He’s working even when we cannot see. Endure until the end as long as it takes until you get your breakthrough. Say….I am believing your promises God and I’m not turning back.
Wait in Joy. God wants to show others through your storm that you are patiently waiting on Him with faith and joy! All God wants from us is to daily trust him and do good.
Prayer of patience while we wait…
Dear God I come to you today and I ask you to help me to have patience as I wait on you to move in my situation. God grow my faith and trust in you as I face this trial. I do not understand but I want your peace and I ask you to give it to me as I rest in you. I don’t know how, I don’t know when but I know you are going to be faithful and work in my circumstances in your timing so that you can fulfill your perfect will and purpose. You set all things in accordance to your timing so remind me to wait patiently and find peace in your plan.
BIBLE VERSES
Hebrews 6:11-12
And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
James 1:4
But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
Pslam 27:14
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Romans 12:10-12
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving perference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.
