DEVOTIONAL: Beautifully Broken

DEVOTIONAL: Beautifully Broken

BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN……
When I was a little girl and into my adult years, my mom made the most amazing tea and she made it in this brown ceramic pitcher.  This pitcher was perfect and beautiful.  One day, my little sister picked it up to pour some tea and it slipped from her hands and slammed to the floor and busted into a hundred pieces.  This pitcher was special and a symbol of our family and childhood. My entire family was mortified.  Yes, over an old ceramic tea pitcher.
I passed by this tea pitcher that now sits in my china cabinet….my brother and sister in law sat and glued each and every piece of the tea pitcher back together again.  It has lines and cracks, it isn’t perfectly put back together again and there are some pieces that are missing but standing there looking at that tea pitcher it just made me start thinking about my life, about my families life and about your life.  It made me think about all of the broken pieces of life…..past mistakes, bad decisions, failed relationships, painful circumstances, rejection, tragic occurrences, health issues and all of the things in life that can literally break a person.  I looked at that pitcher and thought; you are broken, I should think you are ugly, we should have thrown you away but here you are so beautiful with each broken piece and all put back together…..maybe not the same as you were before but you are perfect and beautifully broken.
Just like this pitcher, each piece of our lives that have been broken can gently be put back together again even if it was shattered into a hundred pieces.  It may take time but piece by piece God will make something beautiful from those broken pieces.  Wow…..that is how we look to Jesus with all of our brokenness….He sees all of those past things in our life and all He sees is a beautifully broken person that He has or can gently put back together again piece by piece.  All we have to do is let Him!  God may put us back together a little differently….a little wiser, with more patience, with a new outlook on life, with more gratitude, with more love for others, with forgiveness but He can only do those things when we give Him the shattered pieces of our lives and ask Him to put them back together again.  We have to give Him EVERY broken piece and let Him mold us and make us into the beautiful piece of art HE wants us to be.  We may be broken but still beautiful and useable in Gods eyes.
Our lives are a lot like that broken pitcher……a shattered mess on the floor but God has a wonderful plan and design for each of those broken pieces as they are just a part of the design He has for our lives.  He sees every broken piece.  He sees each individual piece that makes up who we are.  He knows that until we are broken in certain areas of our lives, only then can He take each one of those pieces and make something beautiful again.  You see, I never thought that pitcher could ever be used again…..it was shattered, it was broken, it was ugly but piece by piece it was molded back to what it was intended to be…..just like God does with our shattered, broken, ugly pieces.  Then he can use those pieces of our lives for the plan and purpose He has for us.  Sometimes we have to be broken for God to restore us and mold us into the person He wants us to be.
Although all we can see is the pain of our brokenness, God sees a work of art because each one of those broken pieces in our lives will one day fit together to create our story and the life that God has so meticulously placed back together.  It takes time but when we put our trust in God, He is so faithful to complete the work He began in each of us.  Once we become willing vessels where we allow Him to mold us into the beautiful piece of art that He wants us to be, then we can be a light that He can shine through, that He can work through and that He can use.  God weaves our lives into a masterpiece and as we let Him, we become Beautifully Broken!
Prayer of Brokenness:
Dear Heavenly Father I come to you today, broken.  My life feels like a shattered mess on the floor and I just don’t know how to pick up the pieces and start again.  I ask you to come and pick up the broken pieces of my life and make me whole again, make me new again and restore my life.  I ask you to mold me into what you want me be so that I can fulfill your plan and your purpose in my life.  I ask you to use my brokenness so that others can see Christ through me.  I ask you God to mold me into a person that is Beautifully Broken and being used by you.  In Jesus name I pray….Amen!
